Final Images

This is my visualisation that I handed in yesterday.

And as I've been working with both knit & print with regards to furniture, I decided to use this as my strong image.

VISUALISATION

For my visualisation I knew from early on I wanted to create a light piece for somewhere where there was the most light in the structure of the new build. After having a tour of it I realised the perfect place for this would be the lanterns at the top of the building, as the light from the rising sun sends cascades of light through the entire building, which would fully utilise the pieces that I made. They would likely be made out of either etched glass or mirror, and since I didn't have the facilities to do this, instead I used clear perspex to show what they would look like.

Screen Images

I ended up giving Mary 5 images and she told me that she is going to choose between them which two to put on the big screen. So the images I gave her are:

Nearing the end of the blog...

As the end of the blog is fast approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to discuss what our final posts are going to be of. These will be the ones that appear on the first page & I think it would be useful for all of us to show our end points, so what it is we're finishing on as individuals.

This could be similar to what we're giving in for the screen output.

If anyone has any suggestions just say!

Making your own vectors

As requested by Vanessa & for anyone else who might be able to use it, here is a little, hopefully simple tutorial on how to create your own vector images using Illustrator.
If anyone would like any help, feel free to ask!

This is just a piece from my inhaler that I photographed because I liked the shape! To draw over it, use the pen tool from the left hand side.
I find that drawing in a bright colour helps, you can always change it afterwards. Drag the line into position & click on the middle point to start drawing the next line.
Draw all the around the shape until you're happy with it. And continue for as much of the image as you would like.

If there's parts that you don't want, just miss them out or if there's parts that you want to add then just use the same method!

Once your image is complete you can change the colour. Personally I like adding an outline to my own drawings as I think it makes them stand out more.

Smarin

I've been looking for unique types of furniture design for my visualisations & came across Smarin by designer Stephanie Marin.

There are some really amazing ideas shown on the website for anyone interested in interiors and furniture. A lot of the things on there really link in with what I'm trying to achieve, they're fun, stylish & unique.

MAURIZIO GALANTE & TAL LANCMAN

This is quite a fun piece of furnishing textiles, where the designers have taken a Louis XV arm chair and created a strinking digitally printed marble pattern, making it look very much like a hard throne made of marble, rather than a soft comfortable arm chair. I love the play on hard and soft, and the fun, perceptive nature of this piece. More at Cerruti Baleri.

Vector Images

As Vanessa has mentioned using vector images to help with visualisations, I thought I would show a part from one of my own visualisations in which I have made my own vector images of people and objects.

Vector images can be created really easily in Illustrator using the pen tool, it creates smooth lines and clear images. The vectors can also be imported from Illustrator into Photoshop as a smart object. I hope this might be of help to people when creating your own visualisations!

Visualisation - Vanessa

Hey guys, this is my most current visualisation. Although it looks simple, it has actually taken me quite a long time to make it. I just thought I'd mention something that was quite useful to me whilst I was making this. The black images of the people, tables and chairs are called vectors. I didn't know this until I went to the digital workshop drop in with Mary Stark. If you wanted to find any vectors (solid black images/silhouettes) there are hundreds for free on Google. I searched for things like "People vector" "table and chairs vector" but you can search for anything you like. If anyone wanted to know how I made this visualisation just ask and we could meet up and I can show you!

TOM DIXON - LIGHTING

Thinking about joining the ideas that I am using with regards light, I also thought about what kind of contexts this could have in a more furnishing home kind of scenario. I found this wonderful piece of 3D design work by Tom Dixon, a British design company who create interesting light fittings, focusing on not only the aesthetic of the light itself but also the shadows and projections they create.

I think the patterns of the shadows it is producing are beautiful, and something which really got me thinking about the relevance to my project, with regards light but also the geometric shapes which I am also looking at. It also makes me think about the possibility of working a bit in three dimensions aswell, which I will try and look into.

Labels (Vanessa)

After our Unit X lecture, I have been thinking that we should introduce some more generic labels to our blog, for easier access to blog posts.

For example how about condensing our current labels to:
  • Visual Research
  • Events
  • Lectures
  • Ideas for Group
Perhaps we could add/change these labels on our current blog posts? Just a suggestion, if there are any other ideas for labels put them on here!

FLORIAN SCHMIDT - IWT

Florian Schmidt uses concrete to create interesting pieces of furniture, which may look soft but are in fact made of sewn together concrete. The material he uses is called 'concrete canvas', he sews together the pieces, then wets the canvas and then as this dries it hardens into concrete, providing a strong structure with which people can sit and enjoy.

I like the processes of this, and how it changes through the making, and I thought it could possibly be useful for people who were considering furniture or seating.

Christopher Pearson - Animated Wallpaper Installations

Like Steph I've been looking at various types of wallpaper too, mostly the interactive kind.

Christopher Pearson uses high definition movie files and projects them on to walls.

This is a section from 'Hickory Landscape'.

Blumen Wallpaper (Vanessa)

Electronic Wallpaper Display, 2004.

Blumen transforms traditional decorative surfaces into a display of floral pattern using electroluminescent technology. The wallpaper divides and decorates space.

Osbourne and Little

I've put these on for you to have a look at Mellisa, because I like how they create the atmosphere of the whole room and don't just show the wallpaper. Thought it might help when you were thinking about creating the atmosphere of your room.
Also these little bird houses reminded me of your duck houses.
David Thope

After seeing your drawings Isaac I thought of this artist he creates all these images from cut up paper, I think they are really interesting. Hope they'll be useful for you.
